Job Title: Director of Nursing

Reporting Relationships: The following staff report directly to the Director of Nursing

  • Staff Nurses (8-10)
  • HCAs (15)

Purpose of the Post: To ensure high quality care is provided to all residents of the organisation are in line with our Mission and Values. This includes ensuring clinical care and support services provided meet individual resident’s needs and comply with Regulations and Standards.

Role and Responsibilities:

Clinical

  • Ensure that the delivery of a high standard of individualised care to all residents consistent through a robust Quality of Care System.
  • Oversight of Clinical Practice to ensure Regulations and Standards are adhered to including appropriate monitoring and auditing with regular RAG status reporting to the Board.
  • Encouragement of innovative practice.
  • Ensure residents are facilitated to provide feedback and information about the care and services they receive.

General

  • Conducting regular communications meeting with staff.
  • Regular attendance and Board Reporting.
  • Maximise opportunities to ensure the Home is high profile with local community Stakeholders and promoted to potential residents.
  • Oversight of Complaints ensure they are appropriately documented and learnings implemented.
  • Liaise with HIQA and other external bodies as required.
  • Communicate with relatives of residents and with visitors as requested.
  • Attend / chair meetings as required.

Financial Management

  • Agreement of Budget with Board and ongoing management within agreed parameters.
  • Understanding of legislative requirements regarding the financial affairs of mentally impaired persons.

Environment

  • Safeguard the safety and welfare of staff, residents and others in line with Health & Safety Regulation and policies.
  • Implement regular Fire Training and Evacuation Drills
  • Ensure hygiene and cleanliness is to the highest standard.

Human Resources

  • Selection and recruitment of staff
  • Ongoing training needs analysis
  • Ensure HR practices comply with current employment legislation.

Qualifications, experience and knowledge:

Professional Knowledge

  • Qualified RGN with 10 years post- registration experience including 2 or more in care of the Older Person
  • Hold or plan to achieve Post registration management qualification in health or related field.
  • Excellent Leadership, Organisational and Communication skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of strategic and clinical leadership adhering to HIQA standards, procedures and guidelines
  • Sound decision making ability and results driven.
  • Ability to motivate self and others and work on own initiative.
  • Ability to work well and promote a team environment.
  • Willingness to be flexible and adapt to the needs of the company.
