Director of Nursing (DON)

A well-established and reputable Nursing Home Group in County Kilkenny is currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Director of Nursing to lead and manage the clinical and operational standards within the home.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated nursing professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for delivering high-quality resident care.

Salary

Up to €80,000 per annum, depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

 Clinical Leadership

* Ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care to all residents through an effective Quality of Care system.
* Provide oversight of clinical practices to ensure compliance with HIQA regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
* Implement and monitor regular clinical audits and RAG status reporting to the Board.
* Promote and encourage innovative and evidence-based nursing practices.
* Ensure residents are supported to provide feedback regarding their care and services.

Operational Management

* Conduct regular staff communication and management meetings.
* Attend Board meetings and provide regular operational and clinical reports.
* Maintain strong relationships with residents, relatives, visitors, and external stakeholders.
* Ensure complaints are managed professionally, documented appropriately, and that learnings are implemented.
* Liaise with HIQA and other relevant external agencies as required.
* Promote the Nursing Home positively within the local community.

Financial Management

* Work with the Board to agree annual budgets and manage resources effectively within agreed parameters.
* Maintain an understanding of legislative requirements relating to the financial affairs of mentally impaired persons.

Health, Safety & Environment

* Ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents, staff, and visitors in line with Health & Safety regulations.
* Oversee fire safety training and regular evacuation drills.
* Ensure the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the home.

Human Resources

* Lead recruitment and selection processes for nursing and care staff.
* Identify ongoing training and development needs within the team.
* Ensure all HR practices comply with current employment legislation and company policies.
* Foster a positive and collaborative working environment.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

* Registered General Nurse (RGN) with active registration.
* Minimum of 2 years’ management experience within elderly care or a similar healthcare setting.
* Post-registration management qualification in healthcare or a related field, or willingness to undertake same.

* Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
* Demonstrated experience in strategic and clinical leadership within HIQA-regulated environments.
* Sound decision-making ability with a results-driven approach.
* Ability to motivate and lead teams effectively.
* Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills.
* Flexible, adaptable, and capable of working on own initiative.
